7 Most Exciting Ways To Celebrate International Self-Care Day

Happy International Self-Care Day! You may be thinking, “Why do we have a whole day to celebrate self-care?” There are several reasons why it is essential to have a day dedicated to self-care.

Why Celebrate Self-Care?

According to the World Health Organization International Self-Care Day was designated on July 24th (24/07) to remind us that consistency is key and self-care should be practiced 24/7. This reminds us that self-care is not selfish, nor is it a luxury. Instead, it is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. Having a specified Self Care day is also crucial as it works to end stigma around mental health and self-care. The day opens up conversations about these critical topics, thereby helping to normalize them. Finally, International Self-Care Day sparks a change. It can inspire someone to embark on their self-care journey and take a step closer to a healed and healthy life. 

Now that we understand the importance of International Self Care Day, here are 7 exciting ways to celebrate it: 

  1. Go on a Solo Picnic
  • Take a meal or snack and a blanket to your favourite park and have a little picnic by yourself. Whether you people watch, or bird-watch, or cloud-watch, or just enjoy your own company out in nature. 
  1. Spend Time wIth the Sun
  • Schedule some activities to watch the sunrise or sunset. Whether it is a walk, hike, drive or swim, plan accordingly so you can see the sun in all her glory.
  1. Lean into your aquatic side.
  • Summer is for water fun! Jump in the pool, take a cold bath, swim in the ocean or run through a sprinkler. Whatever floats your boat (pun absolutely intended). Let the water wash away your worries.
  1. Make a Summer Vision Board or Scrapbook
  • Scrapbook your summer memories, create a junk journal, or make a vision board for what you want the rest of your summer to look like. Lean into the summer vibes! If you feel like you haven’t done much this summer consider making a magazine collage.
  1. Try a New Summer Morning Ritual

  1. Do an outdoor workout
  • Whether it is Tai Chi in the park, rooftop yoga, going for a run, water skiing, beach volleyball, or another activity, embrace the opportunity to be outside and enjoy the long days and pleasant weather
  1. Paint Something Outside
  • Find some rocks, shells, sticks, or leaves and get creative. Consider using them to decorate a peace garden or give them to your loved ones to make their day especially bright!

If no one has told you today, remember that you are worthy of self-care. You deserve to treat yourself with the same love and care you give to others. Remember, you are essential and you can do this!
