How to Slow Down and Enjoy the Holidays

Hello Friends,

It is easy to get caught up in overwhelming schedules and pressure to do it all during the holiday season. The constant rush can make relaxing and enjoying this truly special time of year hard. Here are some ideas for how you can slow down and enjoy the holidays more this year.

Simplify Your Priorities: The less on your plate, the easier it is to slow down and enjoy each thing. If you have 50 things on your plate at all times, it is hard not to be constantly in a rush to get to the next. However, when you slow down and consider what is most important, you are able to enjoy each thing more.

Be Present: Focus on each moment and task as it comes. Allow yourself to slow down and enjoy each moment while it is happening before moving on to the next. Being present also means leaving room for spontaneity. Rather than getting too caught up in scheduling every second of the future, enjoy the spontaneous joys of everything happening right now.

Savor the Little Things: Small moments make the holidays magical, yet we often do not appreciate them enough. Try to find gratitude for small things. Like your favourite holiday song coming on the radio during your drive to work. Another way to savour the small things is to slow down and use your senses. Enjoy the scent of pine or fresh-baked cookies and the sounds of loved ones laughing together.

Practice Self-Care: The better you are able to take care of yourself during the holidays, the more you will be able to enjoy them. Scheduling time to slow down, rest, and take care of yourself allows you to re-energize for the season’s activities. I did a whole post on Holiday Self-Care ideas, so if you haven’t read that yet, make sure to check it out.

Give Back: Helping others during the holiday season can help us remember and connect to the true meaning of the season. This can be as small as a simple act of kindness like holding the door open for someone. Or it can be something bigger like volunteering or donating to a local cause. I have a post coming later this week on ways to give back this holiday season, so stay tuned for that!

Until Tomorrow, My Friends!

P.S. I’m proud of you 😉
