Hello Friends,
The theme of my Blogmas has been a reminder that the holidays can be extremely difficult. Giving back to those who need it most can help make the holidays easier and more joyful. Sometimes, it is difficult to know how to help or where to start. So, here are five ways you can give back this holiday season!
Volunteer in Your Community: Your time is one of the greatest gifts you can give, and it requires no money. You could volunteer at a soup kitchen or local food bank, visit a children’s hospital or nursing home to spread holiday cheer or organize a “give back” day to bring your friends and family together and all volunteer together.
Donate Things You No Longer Use: Another way you can give back this holiday season that requires no money is by donating things you have but no longer use. Now is a great time to go through your belongings and donate stuff you no longer need or use. Giving something you no longer use to a second-hand store could be helping someone else get a wonderful holiday gift. If you know you have new things coming in from gifts you will receive over the holidays, now is a great time to get rid of things you aren’t using and possibly make someone else’s holiday!
Donate to Causes that Matter to You: You could donate canned food items to a food drive or donate what you can to a cause that matters to you. If you are looking for somewhere to donate, I have a fundraiser for EveryMind running until Christmas! You don’t even have to go out of your way to do this. Consider rounding up your total at a store when asked or donating to a Salvation Army Santa.
Send Cards and Holiday Cheer: You could write holiday cards for soldiers or people in nursing homes. You could also create cards for overlooked people who help you in your everyday life. Such as your building doorman, your mailman, the crossing guard or even your favourite barista. If you want to brighten a strangers day, consider leaving a note with holiday well-wishes on someones windshield.
Support Small Businesses: Shopping local is a great way to give back and support your community. See if you have a local holiday market you can attend, as they often have mainly small business vendors. Shopping small is also a great way to find unique and memorable gifts for everyone on your list!
Giving back doesn’t require a lot of time, energy or money. Evaluate what resources you are able to give this holiday season and pick a way to give back that works best for you. Giving back helps make the holidays better for everyone!
Until Tomorrow, My Friends!
P.S. I’m proud of you 😉
