Hello Friends,
Discover the secret to the perfect guilt-free summer nap. Welcome back to my Summer Fun Series! I apologize for the delay in publishing this blog post. I’ve been feeling a little under the weather for the last couple of days and have prioritized my well-being, as I always tell you all to do. (Working on the ‘practice what you preach’ thing still, but I am getting better!)
If you didn’t put two and two together, the extra rest over the last couple of days is what has inspired this wonderfully odd blog post! Oh, I almost forgot, happy August Friends. It just hit me that I should have done a start of a new month or halfway through a summer blog post, but I am already two paragraphs deep into this one, so we are rolling with it. I’m just letting my thoughts spill out onto the screen here, so I hope you find it entertaining. Well, without any further ado, let us get to The Art of the Perfect Guilt-Free Summer Nap.
Step 1: A cool summery breeze. Can be real or orchestrated (use a fan and an ocean wave sound machine, if necessary). Now that some cooler August air is upon us, a cool breeze and a light blanket are an ideal match for a perfect summer nap!
Step 2: Set a timer to avoid stress about oversleeping. There is nothing worse than waking up in panic every five minutes, concerned that you overslept. An alarm eliminates that and allows you to rest for a set amount of time without worry. (Pro Tip – know yourself and make sure you set one you know will wake you up)
Step 3: Choose a space away from distractions. If there is too much stimulation in the space where you are trying to nap, you will never reach a restful state. Choose a space where you can be calm and quiet your mind…keep the to-do list far away from the nap zone.
Something about summer screams relaxation, and what could be more luxurious than taking a midday beauty rest? Doing it guilt-free! The problem that comes with resting is often guilt. We live in a society full of hustle and bustle. Rest can make us feel like we are falling behind. This summer, we are rewriting that script and reclaiming our rest. Here are 3 ways how:
- Rest is not a reward; it is a requirement. You do not need to earn rest. By simply existing, you have the right to rest; no further effort or earning is required.
- Don’t think of naps as a waste of time; instead, think of them as a way to recharge your battery and reset your nervous system.
- As proof that rest is productive, naps have been proven to improve mood, release anxiety, reduce brain fog, and help regulate emotions. Focus on all of these positives that come from napping instead of things you could do with the time instead.
This is your reminder to slow down, take some time to luxuriate, and get some extra rest this week!
Until Next Week, My Friends,
P.S. I’m proud of you 😉
