Holiday How to: Coping with Burnout

Hello Friends,

Holiday burnout is real. I have been feeling it a bit this week. It is normal and okay if you are experiencing it as well. Building on my post about identifying holiday burnout post, today, I am covering ways to cope with burnout this holiday season.

Practice Self-Care – If you are experiencing holiday burnout, the best way to cope is to up your self-care. Find an evening to do something just for yourself. Self-care doesn’t always have to be taking a bath or doing a face mask. It can also look like ordering your favourite meal, going for a walk, or staying in to watch your favourite movie. If you are looking for more ideas, I have a blog post on Holiday Self-Care.

Fix Your Environment – It is often said that your space reflects your frame of mind. Set aside some time and clean up the spaces in which you spend your time. Even 15 minutes of decluttering can help invite some calm into your life. Tidying up can also be a great mindfulness activity.

Lean into Your Support System: It is okay to ask for help. Those around us who love and care about us often want to help; they just don’t know how. Ask someone to bring a dish to your holiday dinner or invite a friend to help bake cookies and catch up. You can also try confiding in someone you trust. Sometimes, talking it out can make all the difference. If you are someone who wants to help their loved one but doesn’t know how I have a blog post on how to support a loved one who is struggling during the holidays

Simplify Plans: It is okay to simplify plans to something more manageable. This may mean moving a night out with friends to a movie night or a family dinner to a pyjama party. The most important thing is spending time with those you love, not how you do it. You deserve to enjoy the holidays, and it is okay to change your plans to ensure that is possible.
