Everyday is a once in a lifetime Opportunity
Does anyone else cry when their birthday is over? I’m like this whenever something I’ve been eagerly anticipating finally arrives, then ends. I wish time would speed up so the day would finally arrive, but when it’s over, I feel sad and wonder: “What now?” I almost dread having to return to the mundane Mondays and Tuesdays. So this year I am not.
My one wish for my 21st birthday was that it wouldn’t feel like just any other Wednesday. I wanted it to be special and fun, and thanks to my mom, who has planned the best birthdays for all 21 years of my life, it was! So much so that I cried when it was over.
As the last few minutes of my birthday ticked by, I was journaling (of course) and thinking about my one birthday wish. That’s when it hit me: I will never turn 21 again. I got so emotional because what do you mean this was my only 21st birthday? Then it hit me even harder because we only ever get one of each day.
We only get one March 3rd, 2025. There was only one June 9th, 2022. I’ll never again experience Easter as a teenager or watch Canada Day fireworks as an 8-year-old. So why don’t we want every day to feel special? Why do we settle for the same old Mondays and Thursdays that just get us through the week?
Every single day is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Let me say it louder for the people in the back: EVERY DAY IS A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY. I don’t know how I missed this before, but I’m grateful for whatever epiphany I had last night because it has given me the opportunity to make all 365 days of my 22nd year count.
That’s my pledge for my 22nd year: to make every second count. I won’t settle for the same old Tuesdays. I just have to get through until the next exciting date in my calendar. If you’re curious about how I plan to do this (or want to join me), here’s the deal:
I’ve set 21 goals for myself this year (they’re posted on my Instagram). I’m making every day significant by working toward these goals, one day at a time. Each day will be a little different, and that’s what will make it special.
This isn’t about making every day a blowout extravaganza or adding pressure, or taking away from those special days on your calendar. It’s about finding magic in the mundane and choosing to see each day for what it is: a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
